To my dearest and most secret readers,

Somebody has spilled the beans and you won’t believe who is reading Fighting with Angels.  Both the heavens and the underworld are taking interest in this account of their personal affairs.  If you’ve had the chance to read the novel, share it with someone who you think will enjoy it.  Spread the word and I’ll keep working on the sequel…

Chains of bondage

To my dearest and most secret readers,

How long has it been since I’ve written to you last?  It seems like a lifetime ago.  For time does not pass quickly when you are wrestling with the chains of bondage.  And that is exactly where I have been, tied up in my own web of faults and feelings that have trapped me and taken me away from what I should have been doing.  Life comes full of distractions.  Some of them come from the deceiver.  It is a reality that Satan attacks that which brings God’s children closer to Him.  Sadly much of it comes from our own flawed natures as well.

Throughout life we have many opportunities to turn away from God.  Some sins are small and it is easy to redirect ourselves back.  But small sins can lead to bigger ones and the scars of such actions are much more difficult to overcome.  God will always forgive us for our trespasses in a most perfect way.  He has no need for the memory of what has been wiped clean.  But all too often the damage we do to ourselves or the people we may have hurt along the way is not as easily released or repaired.  There are things that we hold on to, sometimes so deep down and hidden that we are not even consciously aware.  These are the chains that I speak of.

I personally have spent much of my life running away from myself or hiding from the chains that hold me from becoming more of what God has planned for me.  Admittedly, I still have no idea what that might be, but a window has been opened in my heart and the fog that filled the room has been lifted.  I can see the chains again.  I guess that is a step in the right direction.  Perhaps it won’t be so very long before I write to you again…

Petra

To my dearest and most secret readers,

Hello again and thank you for your patience. I have been working on some very important things for Dr. Crawford as of late and I haven’t had time to write to you in a while. So as a reward for all your waiting, I want to talk with you about Petra, one of my favorite angels.

While angels are typically beautiful creatures, this young woman is on a level of her own. Of course, I speak of Petra as a female for that is how she appears, but in reality angels are spiritual beings and are not really defined by their sex as we humans are. How they appear to us has more to do with our own personification of them, allowing us to relate to them better. Petra is Miranda Crawford’s guardian angel. The two of them share a strong bond with each other. Miranda has always been the most comfortable around our spiritual comrades and she considers Petra the closest thing she has to a girlfriend.

Stereotypically we tend to assume that men are physically stronger than woman. This is not the case with Petra. There are not many angels that can go toe to toe with this warrior and demons grow uneasy at the very mention of her name. All angels wield a weapon, usually a sword, made up of their own spiritual energy. Petra carries two swords. The first is a long Katana sword and the second is a medium-sized Wakizashi blade. Both of the weapons are reminiscent of the ancient Samurai culture. While the Samurai can claim ancestry way back to the ninth century, angels have been around since before God created the earth, leading me to wonder who borrowed the weapon’s technology from whom. Although she does not speak of it, I get the sense that there is some connection between that culture and herself.

Petra is a loyal soldier, having complete confidence in Justice, her commander. She is quite simple and single-minded in her thinking. It is a quality that can make her seem almost child-like at times, but her devotion to God and to her mission is never in question. After all, the name ‘Petra’ is derived from the word ‘rock’ and that is exactly what she is. I will write to you again soon…

Dr. Noah Crawford

To my dearest and most secret readers,

I hope this letter finds you all having as busy a summer as I have. If you are already a follower of this blog or are familiar with the story of Fighting with Angels then you have read about “The Great Dr. Noah Crawford” and his role in the war between the angels of heaven and the demons of hell. If this is your first visit then I will start at the beginning.

Dr. Crawford is a scientist, vastly ahead of his time. After an impressive career with NASA he moved on to found I.D.E.A. Industries (Independent Direction of Ethical Advancements). The company leads the way in robotics and an almost unlimited spectrum of new technologies. It is the kind of work that is only speculated upon except for the fact that they’re doing it right now.

Not long ago the man began exploring different avenues in an effort to come up with a new energy source for the planet. What he discovered instead was a gateway into the spiritual realm. While many other scientists seem to be hell-bent on explaining away the existence of God, Crawford never really gave it much thought. Rather, he remained indifferent, placing more emphasis on the practicality of moving forward with his ideas. After stumbling across what he later named ‘blue’ and ‘yellow energy’ he was forced to acknowledge the presence of a spiritual world. Logically speaking, if angels and demons exist then so must God and the Devil as well.

God makes his presence known to different people in many different ways and this was truly an eye opener for the man. I have spoken with Dr. Crawford on several occasions and he assures me that the battle is still on going, but always encourages me to keep the faith. “God is good,” he always reminds me, “and he shepherds us through the darkest hours.”

The scientist is a husband to his wife, Semira and father to his daughter, Miranda, who inherited all and more of his own genius. I believe I’ve written a letter about the young girl already. As I have been forced into hiding myself, I don’t feel that it would be right of me to divulge where they reside, but they are happy and a much closer family for their experiences. I will write to you again soon…

Begrudged but Faithful Servant

To my dearest and most faithful readers,

Hello again or welcome if you are a new reader.  If you are familiar with Fighting with Angels then you already know all about Lars.  He is easily one of the most talented and powerful of God’s angels.  He is also one of the most stubborn and begrudged of his kind.  To understand this you must first understand the choice that was laid before all angels.

Before God created man He disclosed his plan for them to all of the angels of heaven.  Lucifer, who was the most fair of all the angels, refused to accept that Jesus was to be born of a human woman and become man himself.  He rejected God’s plan and became the first Fallen Angel.   From there he began to recruit as many angels to his cause as he could.

Thus entered Lars into the picture.  Lars came the closest of all the angels in heaven to leaving the Kingdom of God, but still remain.  Rather than join so many of his brethren, he chose to trust in God’s plan and stay on the side of love, but it was a love of God, not man, that swayed his decision.

Among the many differences between men and the angels that protect them is their choice.  While humans are in a constant state of flux on their walk with God, angels made their choice one time for all time and are bound by it.  Lars made his choice and has trudged forward ever since, quietly holding his disdain in check for the ‘assignments’ he has been charged to protect.  At least he used to be quiet.  Most of the time man cannot see angels, unless they appear to them, and Lars has always preferred to keep it that way.  But when a group of scientists discovered a way into the spiritual world all of that changed, including the angel’s silence about his feelings.

Lars is completely loyal to the choice that he made and I am comforted by the knowledge that he is on our side, but from what I’ve been told, he isn’t exactly the life of the party when he is in the company of what he considers to be ‘lesser beings’.  I will write to you again soon…

The Greed Beast

To my dearest and most secret readers,

I will be the first to admit that the Greed Beast is not one of the reasons I retreated into hiding in order to deliver these messages to you.  There are a great many other forces working against me on a spiritual and psychological level that have driven me into the catacombs so that I might continue my work.  You’ll begin to understand just a few of them if you read Fighting with Angels.

Rather, the Greed Beast is one of the ‘grunt-men’ of the Devil’s army in the spiritual realm.  It has no bearing on our world other than the fact that the source of their make up was created here.   Let me back up a moment and explain that idea.  A Greed Beast is not the kind of demon that already existed before God created man, the way that the Fallen Angels are.  They are instead, a creation of our own negative emotion and they get bigger and more numerous the more ‘greed’ enters the world.  Now, I have no way of knowing exactly how many of them there are and I surely haven’t been told the specifics of how our own greed gets translated into the spiritual world, but what I do know is that these monsters absorb it.

They are huge masses of all the gook that our sin adds to them and as you can imagine from the very word ‘greed’, they can’t get enough.  Outwardly they appear to be made of clay or of tar or some other kind of gloppy substance and from their inception they are obese.  After that they only get bigger and bigger.  They will absorb anything and everything they can get their hands on, at least what they are permitted to by their masters.  Of course they grow in size as they consume their prey as the beast that pulled Lars into itself did.

A Greed Beast is surprisingly agile for its size and appearance, but it is not incredibly smart.  An angel is a far more fierce opponent, but their superior talents are often challenged by the sheer numbers that often oppose them.  Perhaps a Greed Beast’s greatest talent is its resilience.  They are incredibly difficult to slay and most attacks that would prove fatal to smaller demons will only  inflict flesh wounds onto them.

Some might take a sick kind of pride (which is another human sin that can create a different kind of demon) from the knowledge that we have helped to create the very monsters that wage war against the guardians that have been put into place to protect us.  I prefer to pray for the strength to ward off the shame of my own weaknesses that aid in such travesties (Shame is another monster that I will have to dive into soon, but not in this letter).  I will write to you again soon…

The Black Knight

 The Black Knight

To my dearest and most secret readers,

When writing about the Black Knight, I am actually referring to two different topics.  Though they are both closely related, they are as different as an object is to a personality.  The object that is up for discussion is an energy suit.  When Dr. Crawford began to play around with the possibility that the blue energy he had discovered was not the new power source he was searching for, but perhaps a porthole into another dimension, it became glaringly obvious that the Cube encasing the energy was far too stationary.  He needed a way to make the energy more mobile so that he might explore his new theory in greater depths.  That was the birth of the Energy Suit experiment.  It became apparent quickly that his daughter Miranda had the most cutting edge ideas on the project.  Together they came up with a suit that could not only generate the energy, but could also respond to the pilot’s mental commands and move as if it were an extension of the body.

The Rock suit was the first of their creations.  It was designed to project energy outwardly so that Miranda could move around and explore the discovered dimension.  The Black Knight suit was designed next and was intended for another pilot to accompany her as her bodyguard.  Ultimately they learned that what they had discovered was not another dimension, but a spiritual realm, in which they came into contact with both angels and demons.  You can read more about that discovery in Fighting with Angels.

The personality I mentioned also goes by the name of Black Knight, but he is much more than just the suit of armor.  When Dr. Crawford realized that his fourteen-year-old daughter was the best choice to pilot the Rock suit because of her expertise with the technology, he immediately began seeking out the best candidate to protect her.  General Dominic Brachert had loads of military experience, but the suit’s ability to give him back the use of his legs was his main motivation to get involved on the project.  After regaining that freedom you couldn’t find a time that the general was not wearing the suit.  Thus it began to feel as if the ‘Black Knight’ were the person in the room and the general had been lost somewhere inside.

After the first incident with some of the spiritual world’s less desirables the Black Knight demanded the development of some form of artillery to aid in their defense.  The knight himself wields a large battle-axe as his weapon of choice.  He is grumpy and opinionated, but he is unmatched in his skill, making him a formidable adversary.  I will write to you again soon…

Prodigy

To my dearest and most secret readers,

I realize that my last few letters have been a little intense.  When having discussions pertaining to such topics as angels and their demonic adversaries who can help but feel somewhat overwhelmed?  The very idea can be daunting.  I thought it might be prudent to bring things down a notch, but at the same time talk about someone I find to be no less amazing.

I’m sure that many of us can relate with the pressures of living up to a family member’s name.  Now imagine that your father is “The Great Dr. Noah Crawford”; world-renowned scientist and inventor.  Fortunately for Miranda she has inherited all and more of her parent’s genius.  If there were a gene pool for intelligence (and who knows, maybe there already is) the Crawford family would be on the list.  From a young age, Miranda has been home schooled by her mother, Semira Crawford, out of their apartment which branches off the hidden underground laboratories of I.D.E.A. Industries.  At fourteen years of age she is truly a child prodigy and has been learning advanced college level material since she was eleven.  Of course having the right teacher doesn’t hurt.  Her mother gave up her position as a science professor at a college in Florida after Miranda was born.

When Miranda isn’t studying with her mother, she is getting her hands dirty in the lab.  It is here that she has the advantage of working with a level of technology we can only dream of.  At first she was content with watching and learning what the other scientists were working on.  That lasted all of a week before she was ‘politely’ sticking her nose into many of the projects.  The Cube project was where she accidentally made her big break through.  After that she was allowed to ‘help out’ on the Energy Suit experiment.  I use the word ‘help’ loosely because most of the ideas (at least the ones that worked) were hers.  She has created three suits of armor that almost magically carry their occupants into the spiritual world.

You can add bravery to the list of Miranda’s attributes as she dons one of the suits herself and was the first to open a dialog with the angels after they were discovered.  Much to her mother’s dismay, she has become a member of the team that interacts with the spiritual realm.

Miranda is a kind and curious young girl on the verge of becoming a young woman, but she is a bit socially inept.  How could she not be?  While there are almost always plenty of scientists around to interact with, Miranda has never been around children her own age.  It’s not that her parents don’t understand the importance of that kind of social development, but it gets harder and harder to find programs to involve your child in the farther north you go and the more secluded you get.  All in all, the girl has a bright future in store for her…If she lives that long.  I will write to you again soon…

Demons are real…

To my dearest and most secret readers,

I’m going to start this letter with an apology right off the bat.  This is not a pleasant subject, but it is crucially important for you to understand that demons are real.  If this is the first time you have stumbled across one of my writings then I would suggest that you go back a few letters for a better understanding of why I am sharing this information with you.

As I started to explain when I last wrote,  angels and demons can not control or force our actions, but they can have an influence on us in our lives.  With angels there is basically nothing to fear as our best interests are a top priority for them, but demons are opportunists.  They are clever and they are crafty and they strike at us when we are weakest.  It is amazing how a little bit of prompting can turn an uneasy feeling into a frenzied panic or anger into hatred.  Like their master they have learned to twist and distort the truth into a nest of lies.  But they are artful in their deception as well.  Rarely will their treachery be so blatant that it is completely obvious to us.  Rather they whisper to us with subtle temptation.  They bate us into following our less than perfect nature on a path away from God’s love and his plan for us.  If a demon is doing its job really well, we find ourselves too wrapped up in a web of petty distractions to notice what is going on.

Please take note that I’m not talking about ‘possession’.  That happens far less than Hollywood would lead us to believe and a person really has to open some doors and invite that kind of thing in willingly.  Besides, the enemy can inflict far more damaging wounds using subtlety anyway.  Of course it doesn’t help that our society has a healthy obsession with the demonic.  The entertainment business makes billions of dollars exploiting the supernatural, under false pretenses, and that is precisely how the unholy are able to fly in under the radar and convince people that they don’t really exist.

Another problem with demons is that there are so many different species to contend with.  There are the ‘Products of Sin’ such as Greed Beasts or Hate Goblins and even worse than these are the Fallen Angels.  The latter are the angels that said ‘no’ to God’s plan in a time when time was just beginning to exist.  Justice went into details about that choice in a private conversation with Joseph inside the Cube.  Some of you may remember that particular discussion from Fighting with Angels.

I will elaborate on all of those species soon enough, but todays letter pays special attention to the Probis Reconous Demonis (that’s Latin for ‘royal pain in the butt demon’).  They are pictured above and of course I am joking about the name.  Actually there isn’t a specific name for the category of evil they fall under, but you can choose from any variation of ghoul, goblin, or gremlin if you like.  If I could, I would share with you their exact origins, but I can’t for the life of me get any kind of explanation on the subject. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that they are something other than Fallen Angels and slaves to them at that.  These guys are the worker bees of the hive and they are everywhere.

As ugly as they are, they are no match for an angel in a one on one situation, but what they lack in individual merit they more than make up for in sheer numbers.  Some of them have wings while others are flightless.  If they are winged, they protrude from their backs like an angel’s do or they are connected directly to their underarms, but they are all bat-like in nature.  The creatures themselves are hunched over and gangly.  Whether they have pig snouts or beaks or any other sort of distorted faces, they are all sniveling and spiteful and they would just as soon stab the demon to their left in the back if  it wasn’t for fear that the one on the right would do the same to them.  As a side note, some demons do have horns, but you should get that cute little picture of the devil with a pitchfork out of your head because that’s just silly.

I hope I have not made too light of these terrifying monsters in your mind.  While I no longer fear them because of our Lord’s promises to us, I do have a healthy respect for how dangerous they can be.  They are not to be trifled with.  The best advise I can give you is that demons hide in dark places so avoid them if you can.  No, I’m not talking about the crawl space underneath your stairs.  I am talking about the wicked and unholy places of our world and possibly in those obscure parts of us that we hide even from ourselves.  Those places provide sanctuary for demons and are their very playgrounds.  Pray for protection and you will receive it.  And stay alert, the dark places in our lives need to be identified if we are going to be freed from them.  I will write to you again soon…

What is an angel?

To my dearest and most secret readers,

I hope that this letter finds you well.  I feel that it is important for me to lay down a few guidelines about what we are talking about; namely the people and creatures that we are dealing with.  The first of which is the creature that has been given the name of angel.  What is an angel?  When Joseph was asked that very question at the beginning of his adventure he described them as “literary devices designed to help inspire a certain feeling of spirituality” (of course he has laughed at that explanation numerous times after discovering first hand the true nature of their existence).  If you are not familiar with Joseph you should really take the time to research my first writings in Fighting with Angels

It is important to note that tradition hands down to us Nine Choirs of Angels.  They in themselves have a hierarchy of their own along with distinct duties which I may elaborate on later, but for now our chief concern is with the Guardian Angel.  Every one of us has a Guardian Angel assigned to us for the course of our life time.  Their role consists of guidance in both our thoughts and in our actions as well as protecting us from evil.

How involved our angels are in our lives is ultimately up to us.  The level and depth of our relationship with God directly determines the level of interaction we have with our Guardians (whether we know about them or not) as they are intimately intertwined in that relationship.  They can not force our actions in any way but they can be of help to us if we pray for it.

Angels have the ability to influence our dreams.  Although they primarily exist in the spiritual realm, they can also alter their own forms and have been known to appear to humans in several ways.  There have been times, although rare, that they have appeared in their full glory.  Generally that seems to be humanoid in nature with large and powerful wings that extend from their backs.  It is uncertain if that is their true form or if our own perception comes into play.  More often than that, they appear to us as humans themselves and offer aid that is not completely understood to us at the time.  They may also take on other forms that are even less obvious to us, but in no way less helpful.

Their ability to change appearance is due to their composition.  Angels are made entirely out of spiritual energy.  While that energy can be altered and made to feel tangible to us, it can not be scientifically explained, at least not by anyone who’s talking about it.  Dr. Crawford and his scientists are adamantly opposed to discussions on the topic (‘for our own good’ they usually add).

At any rate, angels are formidable creatures.  I can say that even before any mention of their weapons.  And what are they protecting us from?  It chills me to discuss the matter, but for now I will only assure you that ‘demons’ can not control our actions either.  I will write to you again soon…
